The EPA hands down official estimates on fuel economy for every vehicle sold in America. For the pickup truck segment, it's all about finding the right balance. We obviously want the most efficient truck possible, but not at the expense of performance. That's where alternatives to unleaded gasoline can help, and with the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel, we get that, and maybe more than we think. At least, that's what Motor Trend says.
The well-respected publication puts vehicles to the test in terms of fuel economy, and uses a different criteria than the standard we are used to. Now, the EPA has not officially given a designation for the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel yet, but when they do, that's the standard, make no bones about it. However, in the meantime, it's interesting to hear what others have found.
In this case, Motor Trend tested out the vehicle and slates it at 28 miles per gallon on the highway, unofficially. That's quite impressive and it will be interesting to see if the truck mimics that in EPA testing. The magazine also pointed to how the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel runs, which is quite well. They note how the V-6 feels like a V-8, and is plenty capable with the ability to tow 9,200 pounds.
Not bad, huh?
