Local fans and drivers of the RAM 1500 have been waiting on specifications for the upcoming model year of our favorite lightweight pickup truck, and the wait is over. Here at Ralph Sellers, we think it was worth it. Take a look at the changes and numbers we discovered for the 2014 RAM 1500 and EcoDiesel pickup trucks.

According to the Chief Engineer for the RAM brand, there were significant changes required to move from the former V6 to what is being offered for the 2014 model year. Mike Cairn stated, "There was more towing capacity in the V-6 Ram 1500 but we needed to upgrade the transmission to hold the truck and trailer when parked on steep grades. Now that we're building the transmissions ourselves, the improvements are included in the new assembly."1

Drivers in Baton Rouge can expect the 2014 RAM 1500 to offer the best towing ability in its class. Equipped with a 305-hp Pentastar V-6 engine it is rated for 7,450 lbs.

And, while we are still waiting for fuel efficiency numbers to be released for the new RAM 1500 Ecodiesel, can tell you that this V6 comes close to attaining the towing power of a V8. That's due to its 13.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel engine which is approved for towing capacity up to 9,200 lbs. Look for this RAM pickup in either two-door, 2WD or long bed variations.
