It seems fitting that the 5 millionth Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled off the assembly line in Detroit to cheers this month. After all, it was this Jeep SUV that brought the once downtrodden manufacturing facility back four years ago.
Since that time, Chrysler has had to hire over 1,000 additional workers to keep up with the public's demand for the award winning Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.
"The fact that we're even standing here says a lot," declared Scott Garberding, vice president in charge of manufacturing for Chrysler. "You guys have stayed focused through the tough times," he told workers at a celebration to mark the event at the plant Tuesday morning. "Our challenge now is to keep that focus - to keep this vehicle at the top of the industry."1
The 2014 Grand Cherokee that actually became number 5 million is a silver one, and will be donated to the USO.
Here in the greater Baton Rouge region, drivers from Prairieville to Denham Springs enjoy the Grand Cherokee for a variety of different reasons. Excellent traction from the Selec-Terrain optional system in the Overland model is one. Another is the Quadra-Lift air suspension system which brings the performance of this vehicle to the top of its class. Of course, the comfort and amenities make the Grand Cherokee highly desirable too.
